Theft of gas cylinders was the cause of last year’s shortage of cooking gas in Kenya.
National Oil Corporation of Kenya (NOCK) managing director Sumayya Athmani said that marketers have adequate stocks but are unable to supply the country with gas because of cylinder shortages. Early this year, NOCK lost 220 LPG cylinders from its Embakasi service station, Oillibya has also admitted to having suffered the same fate.
The energy regulator might soon require all cooking gas retailers to install tracking devices on their cylinders, as it is the case in Malaysia, as a way of easing frequent gas shortages in the country.
