Mumias the Biggest Mover at NSE

Mumias Sugar Company Limited was the biggest mover in yesterday’s trading session at the Nairobi Securities Exchange.

The counter has been quite active in recent weeks, interestingly immediately following news of the hiring of a new chief executive. The news seems to have rejuvenated the counter on the NSE with the share trading in the millions-range on average.

The Mumias Sugar counter had 2,325,100 shares traded in the day in 143 bids yesterday to take the top-mover slot followed by Safaricom with 1,822,800 shares and Equity Bank with 1,386,900 shares. The share price rose marginally, up 5 cents (0.77%) from KES 6.50 to close at KES 6.55. The share price has risen 40.86% in the last 3 months from a closing price of KES 4.65 on 22 March 2012 to yesterday’s closing price of KES 6.55.
