Kenya’s Nakumatt Holdings has been ranked third in Top 100 arenas’ list of Top 10 supermarket chains in the world 2012.
Nakumatt Holdings was the only supermarket chain that represented Africa in the list and it was ranked above internationally recognized Woolworths Limited, IGA Inc. and Sainsbury’s. Tusco and Safeway were the only supermarket chains that were ranked above Nakumatt Holdings.
Established in 1987, Nakumatt Holdings has 30 stores across Kenya with subsidiaries in Uganda and Rwanda dealing in general retail merchandise and has employed over 5,000 people. It will be the first supermarket in the country to offer online shopping.
The list contained several supermarket chains that have opened up across the globe and are the most favored by people.
