The owners of SMART TV will not face any legal action from the government as none of the collapsed broadcaster's subscribers has raised any claims for compensation. Mohammed Nyaoga, the chairman of Transmex which owns Smart TV, said most of their subscribers were issued with the decoders for free in a promotion when the firm entered the market.
SMART TV closed up shop when its primary investor, the Swedish Next Generation Broadcasting (NGB) company pulled out of the investment. SMART was the second pay television operator in Kenya to close shop after GTV fell into financial distress in 2009.
