The 2012 edition of the NSE Investment Challenge was launched on Wednesday 2nd May 2012 at Daystar University, Nairobi Campus in a ceremony presided over by the Chief Executive Officer of the Nairobi Securities Exchange, Mr. Peter Mwangi.
Commenting at the launch Mr. Mwangi said: “The NSE Investment Challenge is our way of encouraging our youth to develop a culture of savings and investments, by demonstrating in a practical way how to buy and sell securities listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange.”
The competition is web-based, thus enabling youth from all over the country have access to it and this year the competition has attracted Kenyan participants from the United States of America. For 3 months, participants will buy, hold and sell shares using a virtual start-up amount of KES 2 million and trade using real-time share information. Players will also have to give reasons for their trading decisions and winners will be judged, among other criteria, on their trading decisions. Players are competing for a KES 200,000 cash prize as well as internship opportunities at the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
