Oct 22 Morning Bell: Olympia Leads Gainers Whilst Total Drops At The NSE

Nairobi bourse plans platform for trading in carbon credits

An update on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) as at 11.45 am today.

The winners

Olympia Capital Holdings (OCH), Kenya Orchards Limited (ORCH),  Car And General Kenya Limited (C&G), Longhorn Kenya Limited (LKL), and Express Kenya Limited (XPRS) are the companies whose share price had appreciated the most. Only 400 orchards shares had changed hands in the morning. 100 is the minimum number of shares that can be traded in one transaction.

The losers

Total Kenya Limited (TOTL), Standard Group Limited (SGL), Sasini Tea And Coffee Limited (SASN), British American Tobacco Kenya Limited (BAT) and Unga Group Limited (UNGA) had declined the most in share price. The CEO of Total’s mother company yesterday perished in an airport  accident. Although the shed in Total Kenya’s price is more due to market adjustment than the death of the global CEO.

Most shares traded

Safaricom Limited (SCOM), The Kenya Power & Lighting Company Limited (KPLC), Equity Bank Limited (EQTY), British-American Investments Company Limited -Britam- (BRIT) and Mumias Sugar Company Limited (MSC), were the five most traded shares. Over 3 million Safaricom shares had changed hands in the morning.
