NSSF To Build 30,000 Houses in Mavoko

The National Social Security Fund is planning to build 30,000 housing units in a mixed residential development in Mavoko. This comes as the Government is urged to change its approach to the current housing delivery methods.

Focus has been on providing housing for the high income earners and the poor, neglecting the middle class earners. Often the assumption has been this group is un-banked and do not have collateral necessary to get formal financing, it is further assumed that they lack the purchasing power necessary to be home owners and are often sidelined.

Wagane Diouf Chief Executive Officer of pan African Real Estate Development Company Urbanis Africa says from the estimated 50 million low income Africans, 10% of them have the capacity to purchase homes.

The way forward for Africa Diouf said is developing more mixed income estates which will allow governments to better manage urbanization patters and inevitably deal with the slum menace.
