Nairobi bourse plans platform for trading in carbon credits

The winners

Longhorn Kenya‘s price appreciated 9.8% today. At the close of trading, its share was fetching KES 28.00. This is the third day since Monday that the publisher’s share has ended the day among the top five gainers. Other shares that rose in value were Kenya Orchards, Olympia Capital Holdings and CIC Insurance, up 9.59%, 9.4%, 4.29% and 3.6% respectively. Kenya Orchards has risen over 2000% since January. The fruit canner has recently announced that it intends to venture into the production of spices and seasonings.

The losers

Eaagads limited declined the most in value. The coffee grower shed 9.09% today compared to yesterday’s close. This is the second day running that Eaagads has made the list of the top five decliners. Britam, Athi River Mining, Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) & Centum were the other companies whose price reduced the most today. Each shed 4.23%, 3.91%, 3.19% and 2.99% respectively.

Most shares traded

Mumias Sugar Company, Equity Bank limited, Safaricom Limited, Kenya Commercial Bank and CIC Insurance were the top movers. With over 8 million, 7 million, 4 million, 2 million and 1 million shares of each company exchanging hands.

Bids and asks

Bids are prices quoted by prospective buyers while asks are prices quoted by prospective sellers. Pending bids/asks are those that are yet to get a match. They can be used as an indicator of the direction the price of a counter will take.

Longhorn Kenya Limited, Olympia Capital Holdings, and Kenya Orchards ended the day with pending bids but no pending asks.
