Oct 8 Closing Bell: NSE Un-affacted By Uhuru Kenyattas Hague Trial

The Nairobi Securities exchange (NSE) was unfazed by the trial of Kenya's president Uhuru Kenyatta at the International Criminal Court. Mr Kenyatta was today attending a status conference at the Hague based court where he is facing charges of crimes against humanity. The NSE 20 share index ended the day at 5287.87, a marginal  drop of 0.23%. The NSE All Share Index (NASI) ended at  162.65 a minor drop of 0.38%.

The winners

At the close of the market today Olympia Capital Holdings (OCH), Kenya Orchards (ORCH), Unga Group (UNGA), Transcentury Limited (TCL) and Eveready East Africa Limited (EVRD)were the companies whose share price appreciated the most. Eveready the top loser yesterday, rebounded today in the morning and has ended the day among the top gainers.

The losers

Jubilee Insurance (JUB) went down 9.96% and was the biggest loser today. Other counters whose last price of the day shed value are: Eaagads, Car & General, BAT Kenya and TPS Serena. They ended the day at KES  36.25, 41.25, 868.00, and  36.00 respectively.

Most shares traded

Kenya Commercial Bank, , Safaricom Limited, Diamond Trust Kenya, Mumias Sugar Company and Equity bank were the biggest movers. 20.72 million KCB shares changed hands today, a turnover of Kenya Shillings 1.22 billion. Banks are expected to start releasing their financial results for the third quarter (July-September) towards the end of this month.
