Kenya Airways (KQ) plans to recruit a new pool of crew members as it launches Jambo Jet, its very own low cost airline. The courier plans to officially unveil the proposed service pending a decision by the Kenya Civic Aviation Authority (KCAA).
Kenyans may soon have new fare prices given the fact that KQ’s Jambo Jet will be competing with other privately-owned local airlines such as Jet Link and 748 Air Services. Last year, the airliner offered special fares for stand-by tickets with no pre-booking.
With regard to the new flight service, the KCAA has invited the public, as well as other stakeholders in the industry, to submit comments and observations at a hearing scheduled for later this week.
While Jambo Jet may not necessarily lower flight fares, it will help KQ save money in terms of labour cost. The airliner plans to recruit a new flight crew from outside the existing pool of employees in order to reduce its expenses. This comes shortly after KQ sacked about 600 employees to cut operational costs.
