Proposed Tax Registration at Birth

The proposal by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to have all Kenyans above 21 years be required to file tax returns, irrespective of whether they are earning an income, would see people being registered for tax at birth.

If the above proposal is approved, KRA would ensure that people are registered for tax at birth so that by the time they are 21 years, KRA systems will automatically begin to remind them to pay taxes.

I figure one would receive an SMS or e-mail stating:

"Happy Birthday, Welcome to the tax bracket, Please visit your nearest KRA office to file your tax returns. Regards KRA".

What’s your take on this tax proposal?
