Kenya Red Cross Society has started an affordable ambulance service for Kenyans through its Emergency Medical Services (EMS). The service dubbed Jisajili Ujiokoe allows subscribers pay as little as Kshs. 14 a day for family ambulance cover through EMS and Emergency Plus Medical Services.
E-Plus is Kenya Red Cross Society's commercial company which is charged with provision of advanced life support ambulance services around the country.
E-Plus is currently offering annual subscription packages that include individual membership, family membership, corporate membership, school membership and Sacco membership. The Family membership package costs Ksh. 6,000 a year and the ambulances cover is countrywide with strong presence along major highways.
EMS dispatches emergency medical and ambulance services 24 hours, seven days a week. The service has the largest ambulance fleet in the country operated by Paramedics trained in Pre-hospital Care. EMS strategically places Ambulances around the city and along highways to enable them reach emergency locations in the shortest time possible.
Kenya Red Cross' strong presence on social media has helped it manage emergency services well through public participation by volunteering information in the #iVolunteer hush tag on tweeter. KRCS won the best corporate tweep at the Bloggers Association of Kenya (BAKE) Awards, 2012.
