What’s to become of you when every card that enabled you to live a cashless life is lost? By this, I refer to your ATM card(s), shopping card, national identification card, credit card(s) and all other forms of plastic that make carrying cash unnecessary. Well, you’d replace them obviously. So the question then is, what do you need? The table below may help:

* Depends on the type of account.
Shopping cards: They’re free to get the first time you apply but will see you part with no more than KES 500 to replace. It will take an average of 5 days to get your card from date of application. This is however dependent on whether their systems have no “problems”. Its also better for one to go to the actual supermarket to collect their card as opposed to the mail option.
Banks: All banks will require you to report that you have lost your ATM card so they can stop any transactions from it. Your national identification card serves to verify that you are the account holder and is compulsory when re-applying. Passport photos are thus unnecessary. The fee for the initial application and replacement will be deducted from your account and you will receive your debit card within the day (in the case of Barclays Bank of Kenya) or wait up to 24 days, as it is with Diamond Trust Bank.
Others: Google’s beba card is thus far the easiest and fastest replaceable card there is in Kenya. No National identification card necessary and you only require a Google mail account.Much like the bank ATM cards, you need to inform them that you’ve lost your card so they can transfer the balance you had. The Nation Hela card will require you to have your National ID and will see you part with KES 500 initially and when replacing. The standard denominator for most of your cards is your National ID. Replacing it is free and it takes 2 weeks to get it; assuming no system failure, lack of material and no backlogs.
