Safaricom subscribers can now permanently make cross network calls at the rate of Ksh 4 per minute, down from Ksh 5 per minute. This comes after Safaricom limited announced through its Facebook page that it has made the Ksh 4 per minute local cross network calling rate offer permanent.
The offer came into effect on 6th June 2012 and was expected to end on 5th July 2012. Five days after expiry of the offer, Safaricom made an announcement that it has decided to make the offer permanent.
Safaricom, in the recent past, had the highest cross network calling rates, a move that negatively impacted its off-net voice traffic as posted in the Communications Commission of Kenya (CCK), 2nd Quarter October – December Report 2011. As per the report, Safaricom’s off-net voice traffic stood at 227,004,015, nearly half of Airtel’s which stood at 427,361,165
