Safaricom Wins Tax Race

Our taxman, KRA, says that Safaricom Limited has emerged the top taxpayer in the country for the financial year 2011/2012. The top ten taxpayers according to KRA goes as as it is in the order below:-

The companies above accounted for KES 115 billion of the total tax remitted, which represents 17% of total revenue collected in the financial year 2011/2012. KRA’s collections rose 71.4% to KES 707.3 billion in the financial year 2011/2012 from KES 200 billion 2003.

The total revenue estimates for financial year 2012/13 stands at KES 956.9 billion. This includes KES 870.5 billion of ordinary revenue, KES 84.8 billion of appropriations-in-aid and KES 1.3 billion in respect of LATF adjustment.

In the Financial Year 2011/2012, the revenue target was KES 717 billion consisting of KES 681.5 billion of Exchequer revenue and KES 35.5 billion of agency revenue. This represented a growth of 13% over the KES 634.9 billion realise in 2010/2011. The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) aims at gathering a minimum of KES 1.2 trillion per annum by 2015; a 41.06% increment on the  KES 707.3 billion in revenue collected in the financial year June 2011 to June 2012.
