Samsung Electronics East Africa has become the first consumer electronics company to receive a CCK type approval rating for one of its integrated digital TV models. The news of the approval of one of the DVB-T2 compliant TV sets was confirmed by Allan Oyier, General Manager.
The news comes at a time when Information Permanent Secretary Dr. Bitange Ndemo said that December 31 shall be the last day of analogue television signal in Nairobi. Barely one month ago, the Communications Commissions of Kenya (CCK) licensed 60 more set top dealers, making the total in Kenya 64. Some of the licensed dealers offer free-to-air channels while some will require monthly payment. The endorsement of the models by CCK may cut into the dealers’ profit and further approval for other TV manufacturers will spread the profits thin. The model in this case is the High Definition Samsung ES 5600K which is available in 32-inch, 40-inch and 46-inch screen sizes.
“Samsung understands the African consumers’ needs and wants which inspire us to design and market products that meet such demands. Besides the inbuilt DVB-T2 receiver, the Samsung ES 5600K TV is also factory loaded also with our triple protector technology to withstand the impact of humidity, lightning and electricity surges through reduced power dependency.” – Allan Oyier.
The model does not need a set top box attachment since it has a DVB-T2 Digital receiver inside it. The price range is as follows:
Among the features the model boasts of are full HD, USB movie, a Wi-fi dongle and Smart TV functionalities. Users also have a greater choice of television channels to choose from as it has a built-in analogue tuner. It is currently retailing at Nakumatt outlets and all leading Samsung authorised dealers.
