It is a prerequisite set by the City Council of Nairobi to pay a parking ticket anytime you park in the Central Business District (CBD) or in any other city council owned parking zones. There are three main different types of parking tickets available:
- Daily – KES 140
- Monthly – KES 2,000
- Quarterly – KES 5,500
Is there a way to cut on your parking ticket expenses?
Yes!
The daily ticketing option is only ideal if you rarely park in the CBD, since it becomes an expensive option if you frequently park within the CBD.
Buying a daily ticket for 26 days (excluding Sundays) would cost you (KES 140 X 26 Days) = KES 3,640
Taking the monthly parking ticket option would cost you KES 2,000
Compared to buying daily tickets for a month, it is cheaper to take the monthly tickets since you will save by up to 45%.
KES 3,640 – KES 2,000 = KES 1,640
You will actually spend KES 1,640 less if you take the monthly parking tickets option.
1,640/3,640 X 100 = 45%
Thus save by 45%
Is there an even cheaper alternative?
The answer is YES!
Buying a parking ticket everyday for 4 months would cost you (KES 140 X 104 Days) = KES 14,560
There is a cheaper option of taking the quarterly parking tickets that only cost KES 5,500.
You will actually save by up to 62% if you take this option.
KES 14,560 – KES 5,500 = KES 9,060
You will spend KES 9,060 less if you take the quarterly parking tickets option.
9,060/14,560 X 100 = 62%
Thus the 62% save
Taking the monthly parking tickets option for 4 months will cost you KES 8,000
Taking the quarterly ticketing option will cost KES 5,500, comparing the two it would be cheaper to take the quarterly option since you will cut down on you parking tickets by up to KES 2,500
KES 8,000 – KES 5,500 = KES 2,500
And you will subsequently save by up to 31%
2,500/8,000 x 100 = 31%
