Centum’s closing price made it the biggest loser today at the NSE. The investment firm lost 9.09% compared to yesterday’s closing price. The Nairobi Securities Exchange, CIC Insurance and Britam continued with the trend set today in the morning to shed 8.08%, 7.46% and 7.19% respectively. Scangroup limited was the fifth largest decliner today, down 2.34% to end the day at KES 15.30.
For the third day this week Kenya Orchards was among the top five gainers. Its price rose 9.52% to close at KES 57.50 with 800 shares changing hands. Eagads, Sasini & Sameer Africa Limited (formerly referred to as Firestone East Africa) followed, rising by 5.41%, 3.52%, and 2.99% respectively. East African cables rose 2.34% to KES 15.3%.
The NSE 20 share index was down 1.03% to 5322.65, while the NSE all share index (NASI) declined 1.76 to 163.69. Both indicated that the bourse shed value today.
Todays biggest mover was Safaricom which had 5.59 million shares exchanging hands. It also had the most number of shares in pending bids and asks. Bids are prices quoted by prospective buyers, while asks are the prices quoted by prospective sellers. Pending means that the bids/asks did not get a match today.
Uchumi had more pending asks than bids. the retailer has been in the news lately over reports that it is having difficulty paying its suppliers.
