At the close of trading yesterday, the NSE 20-share index stood at 3,637.08 points, up 8.84 points and from 3,628.24 points on Monday 14 May 2012. The NSE All-share index also rose from 78.98 on Monday to 79.19 points yesterday. The increase in the indices continued the upward trend of the NSE we saw last week.
The counters we will be observing today are:
Kenya-Reinsurance: The share has continued rising in this week’s trading and yesterday it jumped 5.73% to close at KES 12.00 per share. This consistent increase in value makes it a regular Stocks Watch feature as we see how long the share can sustain this trend.
Sammer Africa: Yesterday the share registered the highest gain at the NSE of 9.30% to close at KES 4.70 per share. This monumental increase is extraordinary because the share rarely features in the gainers category. We will be watching this counter to see whether this was an isolated incident or whether a trend is setting up on this counter.
Kapchorua Tea: for the last three trading days this share has featured in the highest losers category of the NSE. This trend continued yesterday as it recorded a decrease of 2.50% in value to close at KES 117.00 per share. We will watch this share to see how much lower it can reach before the market reacts.
Safaricom Limited: Yesterday the counter moved 13,314,300 shares to register as the biggest mover. This is characteristic of the share and it closed at 3.45, the same level at which it had opened. Last week the company announced its financial results for the period ended 31st December 2011 and this seems to be what is driving investor activity around the share.
