Stocks Watch 7 May 2012

The Nairobi Securities Exchange had 30.14 million shares traded on Friday with a turnover of KES 513.19 million. The NSE 20 share index was up 25.98 points (0.72%) to close at 3,611.10 points from the previous trading session’s 3,585.12 points. The NSE all-share index was up 0.64 points to close at 78.57 from the previous session’s 77.93 points.

The stocks to watch in today’s trading are:

Safaricom: Safaricom closed last week’s trading as the highest mover and 5 cents up at KES 3.45 on Friday. The share will continue its high trading volumes as we await its 2011 end-year results where high net profits are anticipated.

Williamson Tea: The tea company closed Friday’s trading up 8.33% to surpass the KES 250 mark and settle at KES 260, a KES 20 gain  on the day.

Equity Bank: There were 3.496 million Equity Bank shares traded on Friday with the share closing at KES 21. The bank announced a net profit of KES 2.32 billion in the first quarter of 2012 (read that here).

Mumias Sugar Company: The sugar producer was up 3.54% in Friday’s trading, closing 20 cents up at KES 5.85 from the previous sessions KES 5.65. The counter continues its remarkable increase in trading activity with 2.733 million shares traded on Friday.

KCB: The KCB counter was very active on Friday with 6,372,000 shares being traded during the day. The counter closed at KES 24, 50 cents higher than the previous day’s trading.
