Stocks Watch – 8 May 2012

As at the close of trading the NSE 20 share index was down 11.97 points, as compared to Friday last week, to close at 3,599.13 points. The NSE all-share index was down 0.07 points to close at 78.50 from the previous session’s 78.57 points.

The stocks to watch in today’s trading are:

Diamond Trust Bank: The shareholders have approved a KES 1.8 billion rights issue that is set to commence as soon as next month. Such news should have a bearing on the performance of the share.

BOC Kenya: At the close of business yesterday the share reported the highest gain closing 7.48% higher than it had opened. It will be worthwhile to see whether this is a trend or just a random occurrence.

Olympia Holdings: this was the bourse’s largest loser recording a 7.89% loss in value as compared to its opening price. Again it will be worthwhile to see whether this will continue in today’s trading.

Safaricom: the share continues being the most traded counter at the stock exchange.

Kenya Airways: we continue to observe its performance after the close of its rights issue and in anticipation of the announcement of the results of the rights issue.
