The promotional offer dubbed Hola that Telkom Kenya has been running is now going to be a permanent tariff. The service gives consumers a flat rate of Shs 10 for both voice and data in a day within the network.
Telkom has been running the offer for a month and half, allowing its subscribers to make unlimited calls within its network and send 20 SMS free to Telkom Kenya subscribers and rival networks. To be on the Hola tariff, subscribers will have to renew its subscription every day.
Telkom Kenya CEO Mickael Ghossein said the firmĀ intends to grow its voice market share and retain existing customers by introducing such offers in a market where subscribers have multiple SIMs and keep on switching operators depending on the best offer they get.
Telkom Orange currently has a cross network rate of Shs 3, similar to YU mobile and Airtel while Safaricom has a cross network rate of Shs 5 per minute. The firm was one of the three who were proposing a standard cross network rate of Shs 4 within their networks, a proposal industry regulator Communications Commission of Kenya distanced itself from.
