The NSE 20 Share Index today performed 29.63 points better to close at 3,980.53 from 3,950.90 points yesterday and the All-Share Index alsorose by 0.76 points to close at 86.98 points from yesterday’s 86.22.
HIGHEST VOLUMES
Safaricom shares were for a third day the most traded shares at the stock market with 7.48 million shares traded up from 5.43 million shares yesterday while second were Equity Bank with 3.64 million shares. Kenya Power (KPLC) was the third most traded shares with 1.44 million shares and fourth was Housing Finance Corporation of Kenya with 956,800 shares.
COUNTER WATCH
- KenGen – The share was one of the top gainers today with an increase of KES 0.50 to KES 8.85, representing an increase of 5.99%. This comes barely hours after an announcement that the company realized profits of KES 2.8 Billion in the past financial year. The dividends payable per share increased to KES 0.6 per share from KES 0.50 last year.
- Mumias Sugar Company – The company was also a top gainer today having closed at KES 6.55, representing an increase by 4.80%. The company recently released a press statement stating that it would be paying shareholders a dividend of KES 0.50 after books closure on 2nd November, 2012. The increase in price can be attributed to demand for the stock before books closure later this year.
