The NSE 20 Share Index closed a 3971.68, a increase of 4.12 from last Friday’s 3975.80 points. The All-Share Index performance was down 0.57 points from last Friday’s 87.54 points to close at 86.97

HIGHEST VOLUMES

Mumias Sugar Company was the highest traded counter today with 1.98 million shares traded while second was Equity Bank with 1.17 million shares. Kenya Airways was third with 1.13 Million shares changing hands and Kenya Commercial Bank was fourth with 771,800 shares traded.

COUNTER WATCH

  • Standard Chartered Bank – The share closed at KES 214, up by KES 2.00 from last Friday's close. The counter has so far seen a fluctuation from KES 203.00 to KES 215.00 since the announcement of the second rights issue last week. The Rights Issue will be on the basis of One (1) New Share for every Thirteen (13) Existing Shares. Only those who held shares on closure on 19 September 2012 will be eligible to take part in this rights issue.
  • Williamson Tea Ltd – The counter saw 100 shares changing hands as compared to 53,000 shares last Friday. The price of KES 200.00 which was maintained through the day is the lowest price the share has experienced in the past 52 weeks, highest price being KES 315.00.
  • Safaricom Ltd - KES 4.00 was the closing price of this common stock with 582,900 shares trading today.  This price falls within the highest price range the counter has seen this year. Shareholders who purchased at its year-low of KES 2.70 stood to make a profit of approximately 45% if they sold at today's price.
