HIGHEST VOLUMES

Mumias Sugar Company was the highest traded counter again with 4.51 million shares traded while second was Kenya Airways with 4.2 million shares. Safaricom Ltd was third with 2.68 Million shares changing hands and Cooperative Bank was fourth with 1.73 million shares traded.

COUNTER WATCH

  • Standard Chartered Bank – The counter closed with each share going for KES 214 having hit a low of KES 212 and high of KES 218. This spread that allowed for approximately 2% profit comes on a day when the bank's rights issue started on the basis of 1 share for every 13 existing shares. This offer is to those who held shares on closure on 19 September, 2012.
  • Williamson Tea Ltd – This counter exhibited the highest change with the allowable maximum of 10% change. The change by KES 20 to close at KES 220 comes at a time when the outlook for tea globally is said to be worrying. This would have the effect of increasing its price in the very near future thus driving up local demand for the share. The counter had acted to show greater volatility to global news than to local.
  • Mumias Sugar Company – The stocks maintained a price of KES 6.15 despite being the highest traded stock for a second day. The company diversified its production and may stand to yield higher returns in the coming year.
