The Stock Market Today

The performance of the Nairobi Securities Exchange was better today. The NSE 20 Share Index edged closer to the 4000 mark, having gone up 14.06  points to close at 3997.00 points. The All-Share Index also performed better by 0.72 points to close at 87.85 points.

 

 

HIGHEST VOLUMES

Safaricom Ltd was the highest traded counter for a second day with 7.94 million shares traded while second was Equity Bank with 2.37 million shares. Mumias Sugar Company was third with 1.01 Million shares changing hands and Cooperative Bank was fourth with 749,000 shares traded.

COUNTER WATCH

  • Standard Chartered Bank – The stocks maintained a price of KES 213 today with 22,400 shares changing ownership. The ongoing rights issue has seen these rights trade at KES 89 on their first day, signalling a high demand, KES 53.50 yesterday then KES 58 today. This Rights Issue is on the basis of One (1) New Share for every Thirteen (13) Existing Shares. Only the shareholders upon book’s closure on 19th September can take part.
  • Agricultural Sector – Movement in this sector was fairly dormant with 4 counters seeing no action today. Kakuzi Ltd saw the biggest gain in the sector having moved KES 2.50, equivalent to 3.47%. No shares were traded in the Williamson Tea, Kapchorua Tea, Eaagads and Rea Vipingo counters.
  • Technology and Telecommunications Sector – The shares in this sector fall within the KES 4 range, the highest being Access Kenya having closed 10 cents lower at KES 4.60.  Safaricom Ltd was the highest traded in terms of volume for a second consecutive day this week and closed at KES 4.10. Volume of Access Kenya traded is 28,100 for the day while that of Safaricom Ltd was 7.94 million.
