The performance of the Nairobi Securities Exchange was the best the year has seen yet. The NSE 20 Share Index performance was up 2.92 points to close at 4032.41. The All-Share Index performance was also up 0.13 points to close at 88.02

Safaricom Ltd was the highest traded counter today with 3 million shares traded while second was Kenya Commercial Bank with 2.08 million shares. Mumias Sugar Company was third with 2 Million shares changing hands, and Centum Investments was fourth with 1.33 million shares trading.
COUNTER WATCH
- TPS Eastern Africa (Serena) – This counter maintained the average price of KES 38.50 wit demand fluctuating from KES 38 to KES 39.50. They had made an announcement regarding acquisition on Friday stating that it would acquire 79.19% of TPS (Uganda) Ltd from the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development and the National Social Security Fund (Uganda) who own these shares.
- Kenya Airways – The counter saw 88,400 shares traded at an average of KES 11.80, up from yesterday’s KES 11.75. This low share price reflects the market’s valuation of the carrier’s stock and comes at a time when the airline has been granted approval to launch its budget airline subsidiary, Jambo Jet.
- Uchumi – The share edged even higher today having closed at KES 19.90 and trading over 1 Million shares. Media coverage of the stocks performance has seen demand for the stocks sky rocket and put it amongst the top 10 traded counters, by volume. Since September, the share has rallied to gain 27% from a range slightly above KES 15 per share to almost touch the 20 shilling mark.
