The NSE 20 Share Index today gained 0.06 percent to a yet a new 52 week high of 3,959.10 points from 3,956.54 points yesterday indicating that the 20 blue chip counters used to determine the index have generally edged up today. KCB, Mumias and Nation Media Group are some of the 20 blue chip stocks which have edged up today with the latter even closing at a new high of KES 209 last closed in 2008.  The All Share Index meanwhile fell 0.1 percent to 86.95 points from 87.044 points on Friday.

HIGHEST VOLUMES

Safaricom shares were today the most traded with 5.75 million while CIC Insurance were second most traded with 3.04 million shares. Equity Bank were third most traded with 1.92 million shares while fourth were Housing Finance with 1.12 million shares. Cooperative Bank shares were the fifth most traded with 1.09 million shares across the counter.

COUNTER WATCH

Longhorn Publishers – On the first trading full day of trading after Longhorn posted a 25.9 million shilling loss for the financial year ended 30th June 2012, the share did not dip further and closed at KES 15.00 per share similar to yesterday which is the shares’ lowest price since they were listed on the stock market in May.

CFC Stanbic Rights – The rights were today the biggest losers at the stock market, dropping 9.01 percent to close at KES 5.05 from yesterday’s KES 5.55.

Standard Group – After rising to touch the 24 shilling mark for the first time this month yesterday, the share was today the fourth biggest loser at the stock market, losing 3.13 percent to KES 23.25 from KES 24.00 previously.
