Tullow Oil Plc(Tullow) has announced that the Twiga South-1 exploration well, in onshore Kenya Block 13T has successfully  encountered oil. According to a statement from Tullow Oil, drilling is on-going. An earlier statement from Tullow partners  Africa Oil Corp (Africa Oil) on October 26 2012 said an announcement of the drilling result is expected in early to mid-November after target depth has been achieved and necessary sampling and analysis has been completed.

The Twiga South-1 structure is the second prospect to be tested as part of a multi-well drilling campaign in Kenya and Ethiopia and is the first discovery in block 13T following the Ngamia-1 discovery earlier this year in Block 10BB. Tullow has a 50% operated interest in the Twiga South-1 well with Africa Oil holding the remaining 50% interest.

Early this year Tullow Oil Plc announced discovery of oil in one of its oil wells, the Ngamia-1 exploration well in Turkana. The company announced that it had encountered in excess of 20 meters of net oil per day.

The well, located in Turkana County block 10BB, was drilled to an immediate depth of 1,041 meters, has been successfully logged and sampled and the oil has been found to possess similar properties to the light waxy crude oil discovered in Uganda.

The Ngamia-1 well will now be dug to a depth of approximately 2,700metres to explore for deeper potential. Tullow has a 50% operated interest in multiple licenses in Kenya and Ethiopia Rift basins covering in excess of 100,000 square kilometers.
