Ujenzi Bora Launch Cheap Housing Project

Kenyans may soon have access to more low-cost homes as Ujenzi Bora makes plans to introduce cheaper housing models into the market. The housing-procurement firm has set up a task force comprising of architects, engineers and consultants to design at least 5 new affordable house models.

According to David Nahinga, the company’s owner, the houses will range from 70 square feet bamboo houses to Rammed Earth Structures and Brick and Mortar Houses. “Our understanding is that even the existing products in the market are not quite as affordable, even though they are marketed as such,” he said in an e-mail sent to Pesatalk.

The houses are still in their prototype phase but Nahinga, a Registered Quantity Surveyor, notes that they will cost anywhere between KES 1 million and KES 3 million, depending on the size of the houses.

Ujenzi Bora provides property, procurement and building solutions to anyone seeking Real Estate consultancy. The company is registered under Cap 486 of the Laws of Kenya. It has, so far, taken up more than 20 projects, consisting of at least 120 housing units in the region.

The firm is currently working on a construction contract near Maseno. Nahiga reports that construction will take about 9 months after the official groundbreaking date which has not yet been established. The project is still in its documentation stage.
