Victor Wanyama represents more than just the latest Kenyan player to bang his head against the ceiling of rigid football wage structures. That's why he decided to find an exit from Belgium's Beerschot AC in July 2011, rather than find a way to live whilst crouching. He ended up at Celtic (Scotland), and now he is valued at £25 million ( KES 3.42billion). We always see transfer fees thrown around when a player is on the move, but how much are our own star players worth to a club and its fans?
As of 27th July 2012, the lad (Wanyama) was sitting at a market value of £ 3.3 million (KES 452.1 Million). However his new worth now means that he beat other Kenyans scoring a living from professional football in Europe. For instance, MacDonald Mariga plays in Italy's Serie A for Internzionale (Inter Milan) and according to TransferMarket.co.uk, he is worth a market value of £ 5.3 Million (KES 726.1 Million) . Dennis Oliech who plays in France for AJ Auxerre, Ligue 2 is worth a market value of £ 2.2 Million (KES 301.4 Million)
According to futaa.com, the 21-year-old Wanyama signed a four-year deal when he moved from Belgian side Beerschot for a reported £900,000 and his current club's coach Neil Lennon says that he is talented enough to play for Barcelona. How about that? Of course he could be on his way to scoring a long-range worth that could see him around the ranges of Lionel Messi who's market value is £ 105 million (KES 14.4 billion).
