Every weekend, we travel the Interwebs and bring you a collection of articles that might interest you. Here is this weekend’s collection of links. Enjoy!
1. The hectic schedule of Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote
My day is not really very structured because of several issues,” he said. “The demand of my time is really extremely high, especially in Nigeria you have a lot of ceremonies, and unnecessary ones.
Sometimes I go all the way from here [Nigeria] to China, and spend only five hours in China and come back,” explained Dangote. “That’s why I don’t take my private jet to China because the pilots need hours to rest, and the hours that they need, which is nine hours to rest, I don’t have nine hours. So I have to take Emirates.
2. Making Friends with Your Financial Fears
Whenever the fear of losing wealth invaded my consciousness, I was able to remind myself of how little I really needed to be happy.
The most important secret of wealth preservation is to make peace with your fear of becoming poor.
You can't control the economy. You can't control the forces that affect your business. But you can control your emotions. By making friends with fear, you will enjoy the wealth you have and make smart, wealth-building decisions.
3. Kenyan inventor brings cooking gas meter to market
The days when one’s cooking gas ran out abruptly leaving uncooked food on the burners are numbered, thanks to Gilbert Maina.
Gilbert, 29, has successfully developed a regulator gauge to measure just how much gas one has used and how much more is left. That means one can estimate when the gas will run out and plan to replenish accordingly. His gadget is known as the Gasimita and it is the first of its kind in the Kenya market.
4. Tips To Effectively Manage Hospital Bills
While you can’t predict sickness or accidents, there are certain things you can do before and after hospitalisation that help you greatly reduce your medical expenses.
Think about what this portends. The primary role men have played since they departed the cave in pursuit of bison and woolly mammoths and marched forth in flannel suits to earn paychecks in the Mad Men era will be passed to women. The impact will be felt everywhere, from the classroom to the boardroom to the bedroom, in how men and women work, play, shop, vote, save and share and court and even love each other.
6. Why Millennials Don't Want To Buy Stuff
In other words, the reason we acquire "stuff" is becoming more about what we get from the acquisition. Purchasing something isn't really about the thing itself anymore. Today, a product or service is powerful because of how it connects people to something--or someone--else. It has impact because we can do something worthwhile with it, tell others about it, or have it say something about us. As leaders and entrepreneurs, we can intentionally use this knowledge to our advantage. We just have to think about the "stuff" we sell in a slightly new way.
