We have so far covered Safaricom’s, Airtel’s and Orange mobile internet data plans designed for mobile phone users, today we will look at what Yu mobile has to offer.

Yu Mobile, the only mobile service provider yet to join the 3G network, has special data plans suitable for mobile phone browsing. The Internet speeds might not be as fast as those offered by Yu Mobile competitors, but Yu mobile internet rates are relatively affordable as compared to those offer by some of her competitors.

The first data plan we will look at is the Data @ 50Cts. This is a subscription based plan were users get billed for surfing the net based on the duration of time they spend online. The rate is 50Cts per minutes, meaning you spend KES 1 for every 2 minutes spent on-line. An hour of surfing will cost you about KES 30.

This plan is ideal for those who want to surf without worrying about their data bundle balance. Based on the fact that you are not billed on the basis of the bundles they have used but on the basis of the time they spend on-line, you can open numerous online pages and download large volumes of data. There are though two cons’s in regard to this:

• Yu doesn’t offer 3G coverage, meaning internet speeds are relatively low for those who are used to fast internet. Pages may take long to open and downloads will be slow.
• Based on these slow internet speeds, you will surf for a longer duration of time since pages take long to open. The longer you stay online, the higher your internet bill will be.

The second data plan is the Unlimited Daily which costs KES 39 per day. This plans lets you surf whole day at a flat fee of KES 39. You can open as many online pages as you may wish, download as much as you would like at a flat rate of KES 39 as long as you don't surpass the Fair Usage Policy. Once you cross the fair usage limit, each additional MB will cost you KES 5.

As compared to the Data @ 50Cts plan, Unlimited Daily is more ideal since KES 39 will give you approximately 1 hour 18 minutes duration of browsing under the Data @ 50Cts plan while the Unlimited Daily plan, KES 39 gives you up to 24 hours’ worth of browsing.

You can also choose to subscriber for the weekend plan where you will spend KES 49 to surf the net all through the weekend. This plan is more ideal for those who mainly browsing over the weekends. Fair Usage Policy also apply here.

You can choose to buy 10MB or 25MB for KES 7 and KES 15 respectively.

You can choose to subscribe to more than one of the above data plans, however, the pack that is given higher priority in the system will prevail and that of lower priority will be forfeited. In case you subscribe to the unlimited packs but still had some data bundles you had purchased, this remaining data will be lost.

A data bundle rate of KES 5 per MB will become applicable after the fair usage policy.
