Sep 29 Closing Bell: Centum And Longhorn Among Top Gainers At The NSE

The winners

Centum Kenya Limited rose 9.17% compared to last Friday's closing price to end the day at KES 65.50 a share. It was behind book publisher Longhorn Kenya limited, the best performer in the morning. Longhorn was the second highest gainer at 9.30%. The share had touched a twelve month high of KES 25.00 during the day. Kapchorua Tea company the top gainer today which appreciated  9.92% to end the day at KES 144.00. Olympia Capital Holdings and agricultural firm Kenya Orchards up 8.06% and 6.67% were fouth and fifth respectively.

The losers

The largest decliner was Crown Berger which shed 8.87% compared to finish the day at KES 113.00. Eveready, NIC Bank, Firestone and Libery Kenya were the other top losers today. Down 6.78%, 6.41%, 5.11% and 4.44% respectively. Eveready today announced that it will be shutting down its under-performing Nakuru factory.

Bids and Asks

Bids are prices quoted by prospective buyers while asks are prices quoted by prospective sellers. Pending bids/asks are those that are yet to get a match.

Safaricom had the highest number of shares in pending bids/asks. The telecommunications firm had over 2 million shares in asks and more than 5 million shares in bids. Other shares with a significant number of shares in pending bids/asks are Cooperative bank, KPLC (Kenya Power), and KenGen.
